Tour Description

Tour Host: Sean Ruthen

This tour looks at the economic heart of Vancouver, with a critical discussion of how historical residential neighbourhoods became urbanized in the late twentieth century throughout North America, with the imposition of the tight street grid, high-rise, and accompanying infrastructure in what were traditionally quiet residential streets.

With the impact of modernity on historic Vancouver as the overall theme, specifics of the walk will include discussion of such historic structures as Waterfront station, the Marine Building, the Hotel Vancouver, and the old Law Courts, along with their newer counterparts, including Canada Place, the Bentall buildings, and Robson Square.
