The Cave - screening and talk
Event Information
About this Event
Oscar nominee Feras Fayyad ("Last Men in Aleppo") delivers an unflinching story of the Syrian war with his powerful new Oscar-nominated documentary, The Cave. For besieged civilians, hope and safety lie underground inside the subterranean hospital known as the Cave, where pediatrician and managing physician Dr. Amani Ballour and her colleagues Samaher and Dr. Alaa have claimed their right to work as equals alongside their male counterparts, doing their jobs in a way that would be unthinkable in the oppressively patriarchal culture that exists above. Following the women as they contend with daily bombardments, chronic supply shortages and the ever-present threat of chemical attacks, The Cave paints a stirring portrait of courage, resilience and female solidarity.
Note: There are some disturbing war images.
Join us for a free screening of The Cave and a talk afterwards with representatives of the Multifaith Alliance for Syrian Refugees.

About the Multifaith Aliance for Syrian Refugees:
Multifaith Alliance for Syrian Refugees (MFA), a project of Tides Center, with more than 100 faith-based and secular participating organizations, is the nation's leading interfaith response to the Syrian refugee crisis. MFA enlists the moral authority and the mobilizing power of religion and civil society to address the ongoing suffering of people affected by the worst humanitarian and refugee crisis of our time. We advocate for sensible and humane refugee policies; cultivate groundbreaking partnerships in the region; raise funds for humanitarian relief; and create awareness of the facts, needs, and opportunities for positive action.
With the war now raging into its ninth year, and conditions worsening every day, MFA works with its established international network of relief suppliers and NGO partners inside Syria to ensure that the right relief is distributed to the right people. In the past two years MFA has delivered more than $137 million in humanitarian aid to Syria. Most recently, bombings have intensified in Idlib where 900,000 more people have been forced to flee since December. In response, MFA is building an Emergency Tent City to provide shelter and relief to those living in the open at the harshest time winter. We constantly monitor the situation on the ground to bring accurate updates to our participating organizations and donors, and where possible, ensure that our efforts continue to meet the critical needs of Syria’s displaced population.
