A behind the scenes look at what it takes to make it as a professional speaker

*Please note. We are focusing primarily on Northern California speakers for the series. However since this project will have a global impact, speakers outside of the Bay Area can still paricipate and gain massive exposure by becoming an advertiser in the film. If you are a speaker outside of Northern Califonia but will be in the Bay Area in 2018, feel free to register as a speaker and we'll try and shoot your scenes while you're in the area.


Hello Speakers,

A few years ago I came up with an idea for connecting speakers to their core audience (i.e. business owners, meeting planners, start-ups and C-level corporate representatives) by producing small but powerful conferences which enables the speaker to simply teach what they know. Most speakers accomplish this by booking paid, non-paid and media opportunities on a regular basis. And although there are a great many speakers out there, most don’t earn enough to make it a full time profession. There are many books and videos on how to make money as a speaker, however there’s nothing out there that pulls the curtain back to share exactly what it takes to build a speaker business while connecting speakers to their core audience. The Career Whisperer: Making it as a speaker Docu-series project is designed to accomplish several goals.

  1. To tell the individual stories of a select group of speakers as they build their speaking businesses
  2. To connect speakers directly to meeting planners and others to get hired as a speaker or coach
  3. To give new and established speakers tips and ideas for launching or expanding their speaker business.
  4. To showcase each speaker as they give talks to their core audience
  5. To answer the following questions…

Exactly what does it take to be a speaker?

What’s the difference between a good speaker and bad one?

How do I make money at it?

How do I fill seats?

How do I build name recognition?

How do I reach meeting planners and others to get booked?

How do I create a one sheet?

How can I create a book that gets me speaking gigs?

How much should I charge for coaching and speaking?

And so after a lot of thought and some careful planning I came to the realization that what I really wanted to do was create a platform for speakers tell their stories by giving a behind the scenes look at what it takes to be successful as a speaker to answer these questions and more.

Introducing: The Career Whisperer: Making money as a speaker Docu-series project…

In addition to producing my conferences(this docu series is based on my popular workshop and book by the same name) I’m master networker but what most people don’t know is that I also wrote, produced and directed 3 Independent movies including The Mo Diaries(2009), Zelma’s Spirit(2010) and Lonesome Town (2011).

*Please note: We are initally reaching out to speakers that live in the Bay area or want to conduct business in the Bay Area (i.e. Silicon Valley) as our production and shooting will take place here. You can be a part of the series if you plan on being in the Bay Area in 2018 as we are not traveling to shoot individual speakers. You can advertise with us even if you live outside of the area.

What makes this project unique is that not only will this be an ongoing series, featuring speakers from around the globe (beginning with the Bay Area) but the project will be shown at special screenings in select theaters before being released to the world via streaming platform and DVD. In addition, the theater screenings will be showcased to the business community which gives speakers an extra opportunity to get booked (hopefully on the spot)

FAQ

  • Speakers will be filmed doing what they do, speaking to their core audience (in some cases we will get close up shots of speakers talking without an audience based on the shooting schedule).
  • We will try and get 30 minutes footage of each speaker giving a talk which will then be edited down to smaller sound bites to give the audience a taste of the speaker’s style.
  • We will launch the series with 7-10 speakers per episode.
  • We are not immediately putting a call for speakers to the general speaking community as this will initially be by invitation only.
  • Speakers contact info will be included in the episode in which they appear.
  • Each speaker will give a behind the scenes look at what it takes to be a speaker.
  • Each speaker will talk about frustrations and triumphs of how they’ve built their speaker business from scratch.
  • We want to leave the audience with a strong sense of who the speaker is and why they should get booked to speak at an event.
  • Speakers who close deals thru this project will keep 100% of any sales from speaking bookings (We want you to walk away with even more speaking business).
  • The film will initially be screened throughout the Bay area as a special Red Carpet Networking and Film Screening. This is a great opportunity to promote your business before, during and after the screening with a goal of booking even more speaking gigs-paid, non-paid and media.
  • After the screening the film will be streamed online or distributed as a DVD. We are currently reviewing many options to see which is the best offer. And yes we are going to try and shop this around to a few networks.
  • Speakers will get a copy of the finished product to use as they wish
  • Speakers will receive 10 free tickets to the movie screening of episode 1 at which point they can network with attendees which will include C-Level reps, small and mid-size business reps, media personalities and meeting planners
  • Speakers will get a chance to introduce themselves and give a 5 min talk about their work at the film screening.
  • Speakers will also participate in a Q and A at the screening
  • We encourage speakers to invite people they want to do business with to the screening
  • Speakers can make an offer at the film screening
  • Speakers will receive a copy of the attendee list from the film screening to use as they wish.
  • Pre- production and scheduling will be completed before Dec. 15TH.
  • Filming will begin Jan 8th thru Feb 28th
  • Editing will begin March 1 and last thru the end of April
  • Advertisers will also recieve 1 year of FREE advertising(42 spots) on my radio show Small Business Forum Radio(reaching over 250,000 listeners globally) if they advertise on 3 or more of our episodes
  • Got a product to promote? We'd be happy to place your product in the film as well (product placement). Advertising and product placement rates are only $1500 per episode
  • Advertisers will receive 2 one minute ads per episodes plus a end credit listing and promotion at all docu-series events and the attendee lists for all docu series events
