Description

The Official UK Book Launch for The Butchering Art: Joseph Lister’s Quest to Transform the Grisly World of Victorian Medicine.

Surgeons are the miracle-workers of the 21st century – but it was not always so. In her new book, The Butchering Art, medical historian Lindsey Fitzharris tells the spellbinding story of the medical revolution that delivered us into the modern age. It is the story of one of history’s greatest scientific minds, when pioneering British surgeon Joseph Lister transformed his brutal, harrowing practice into the safe, vaunted profession we know today.

Dr Lindsey Fitzharris is the creator of the popular blog The Chirurgeon's Apprentice and writer and presenter of the YouTube series Under the Knife. She has appeared on Channel 4, BBC, PBS and National Geographic, and is a purveyor of gruesome artefacts on Instagram (@DrLindseyFitzharris), Twitter (@DrLindseyFitz) and Facebook (@DrLindseyFitzharris).

This is the third of four talks for "Our Blood Lecture Series" that will take place in the Autumn of 2017.

Doors will open at 6:30pm.

*Access: The Museum can only be accessed through a 52-step spiral staircase for the moment.
