The conference will feature a variety of useful and inspiring sessions that will enable you to apply these methods once you return to your organization:
- A session with Mike Arms: an inspirational discussion where you will learn how to shift your way of thinking and adapt your policies to become an innovative organization that is able to meet the changing needs of the animals and people of your community.
- Fundraising: Concrete and proven fundraising methods to build donor bases and diversify fundraising strategies.
- Public Relations: Creative, out-of- the-box public relations techniques to get media attention with little-to-no-cost.
- Social Media: Social media best practices to engage an online audience through excellent online customer service, helpful to-do’s and creative content.
- Networking: Share success stories with fellow animal welfare leaders from across the Southeast.

The Homeless Pets Foundation is one of two animal rescue organizations chosen to host “The Business of Saving Lives”, a one-day conference sponsored by the renowned Helen Woodward Animal Center of San Diego, California. Renee has worked in the development field for 20 years and has a breadth of knowledge
that includes direct mail, grant writing, cultivating donors, securing major gifts,
planning and executing a capital campaign, and managing a planned giving program.
JESSICA GERKE - PR Manager, Helen Woodward Animal Center
Jessica spent over 14 years creating and refining media/publicity campaigns for
a wide variety of professional industries. Through it all, her heart and soul belonged
to animals. It has been a true joy for her to put her knowledge of marketing and
publicity to work for our furry friends in need of forever homes.
MARCIE GRUBE - Social Media Supervisor, Helen Woodward Animal Center
Marcie’s professional background is Business Administration, but a hobby and
passion for technology led her down the path of empowering online communities to
make positive change using social media. She enjoys helping other animal welfare
organisations voice their unique mission, and then share that mission with an online
community thirsting to help their cause.

Who will be attending this event?
Animal Rescue Groups - Founders, Employees, Board Members, Volunteers
Animal Shelter Organizations - Shelter Directors, Staff and Board Members.
Attendees will include those involved in the animal welfare profession wanting to collaborate with their peers and learn new ways to grow their animal shelter, animal rescue or non-profit organization. A heart for animals is the only requirement.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
Roam Dunwoody is located next to the Sandy Springs MARTA station in a strip mall next to LA Fitness and Chick-fil-A. There is plenty of parking and please plan on arriving early in case of traffic. We don't want you to miss the Keynote Speaker.
What can/can't I bring to the event?
WiFi access is included. No pet's allowed. :(
