Event Details

The Business of Public Health Seminar Series, sponsored by University Seminars presents its first panel discussion titled "The Business of Fighting Infectious Disease".  Representatives from various stakeholder groups, including Medicaid, patient advocacy groups, and industry, will examine

  • the possibly diverging incentives that payers, patients, and pharmaceutical companies have to invest in the prevention versus the treatment of infectious disease, with a specific focus on HIV, HCV, and HPV. 
  • the possible tension between offering pharmaceutical companies a financial incentive to develop new treatments and offering patients (and thus public and private payers) affordable treatment options.
