Event description
THE BROTHERS UNCONNECTED (Alan and Richard Bishop) & ALVARIUS B

About this Event

The Brothers Unconnected are the Bishop Brothers (Alan and Richard) who were the original founding members of Sun City Girls. Over the last several years the two have done only a handful of shows together (Beirut, Cairo, Brazil, and Paris) but they have not performed as a duo in the USA since the original Brothers Unconnected tour in the summer of 2008, after the passing of SCG drummer Charles Gocher. Will they play Sun City Girls songs? Perform 14 Zager & Evans covers? Read verbatim from the Tibetan Book of the Dead? There will be no way to know until they take the stage on February 8th and 9th. These two shows at Zebulon will be the only USA performances.

Alvarius B. (Alan Bishop) has penned hundreds of his own original folk songs in a primitive “out” style that is unusual to say the least. And as an interpreter of other people’s work, his songbook includes hundreds of cover songs from the obscure to the very familiar. This body of work is informed by an obsessive love of the singer-songwriter genre, folkloric music from beyond borders, Italian film soundtracks, and an extraordinary sense of humor. Over much of the past ten years, Bishop has been living in Cairo, composing & recording new Alvarius B. material while simultaneously establishing his own Egyptian-based band, The Invisible Hands. His latest solo record was released in late 2017; a triple album juggernaut entitled With a Beaker on the Burner and an Otter in the Oven.
