About this Event

Bronson Arroyo’s baseball career began when the Pittsburgh Pirates selected him in the 3rd round of the 2000 draft. After two seasons in Pittsburgh, Arroyo was traded to the Boston Red Sox where he began to shine on the mound. In 2004, Bronson Arroyo forever secured celebrity status in Red Sox Nation by helping the Boston Red Sox reverse the 86-year-old “Curse of the Bambino.” Arroyo, who narrowly earned a spot in the Red Sox rotation during Spring Training, became one of the team’s most consistent starters. His pitching was critical to the Red Sox after the All-Star break, as he went 7-2 with a 3.97 ERA. During Boston’s World Series run, Bronson turned in several memorable clutch post-season performances. Arroyo had a great first season after being traded to the Cincinnati Reds. He started 35 games and finished with a 3.29 ERA and struck out 184 batters, while leading the league in innings pitched; in fact, he has thrown for over 200 innings in four consecutive seasons. Arroyo later won a Gold Glove Award as a pitcher with the Reds in 2010. Arroyo stands out in a crowd at the towering height of 6’5”. He was born on February 24, 1977 in Key West, Florida, and is named after actor Charles Bronson of Magnificent Seven fame. Arroyo taught himself to play guitar in his first professional baseball season, and now does not go anywhere without his instrument. Red Sox General Manager Theo Epstein refers to Arroyo as “the human jukebox” for the extensive catalogue of songs that he is able to play. He has performed numerous times at various Boston and Cincinnati-area venues over the last several years. Arroyo officially retired from baseball in September of 2017. He resides in Florida and happily continues to perform his music.
