Event description

Description

After a hugely successful premiere of Made In America at the Tucson Desert Song Festival, The Broken Consort brings this exciting program home to New York City and Baltimore. The Broken Consort has gained a reputation for its innovative, tradition-inspired performances built on a strong foundation of daredevil virtuosity and electrifying stage presence. Their work's "extraordinary sonorousness" has been praised by critics as “early music turned early magic," that's “never short of imagination." Partnering with the Arizona Early Music Society, TBC presents a program of Early music from the Americas, surveying archetypically American musical idioms that embody the music which was Made In America. Exploring American music from its genesis, the program exhibits the earliest known roots of American music, including indigenous tribal music, songs from the time of European colonization, sacred and secular monophony, along with music from New England Puritans and Pilgrims, Sacred Harp music and Shape-note songs, American folk music and bawdy songs, and polyphonic music by composers such as William Billings and Justin Morgan.
