Description

Dear friends,

Gwen Krosnick & Ari Isaacman-Beck are honored to invite you to the Season Two Finale of the Boston Beethoven Cycle at Pucker Gallery!

We are deeply happy to be joined, for this May 24th performance, by two truly special colleagues and friends from our musical home of Kneisel Hall in Blue Hill, Maine: the chamber music festival where we first met and played together a decade ago. Getting to play with people like Carter and Rose - in all their thirst for musical exploration, exuberance in making music together, and incredible, inspiring artistry - is the reason we started this series. (That, and: the complete Beethoven quartets, with people like this, for YOU.)

For this season finale, Beethoven's two final "Middle" quartets - the heraldic, staggeringly-joyous "Harp" Quartet and the terror-filled magical thrill ride that is the "Serioso" - close a program that features solo works of three very different composers: virtuoso violist-composer Kenji Bunch who draws on vernacular musical language and his life as a performer in his unique and personal voice; the celebrated Argentinian tango composer Astor Piazzolla; and two works, written thirty years apart, by Richard Wernick, originally of Dorchester, Massachusetts, who is the great elder statesman of American romantic modernism (and our dear friend whose music we have been waiting to share with you since the Boston Beethoven Cycle began).

Please note the early start time for this concert: doors to the Gallery will open at 5:30pm, and the performance will begin at 6pm. Audience members are welcome to enter late through the rear staircase. Light refreshments will be served.

We look forward to sharing this music with you as we continue our Boston Beethoven Cycle: the complete quartets, in their wild and illuminating chronological (publishing) order, and interspersed - as we believe they should be in our hometown - with amazing contemporary music that illuminates them even further. It is a real, pure joy to be sharing the close of our second season with these two favorite Beethoven quartets and two equally-favorite friends. And we are so happy to have you listening.

All our best, with love,
Ari & Gwen

P.S. Season three of The Boston Beethoven Cycle at Pucker Gallery, featuring Op. 127, two Op. 130s (once with the Rondo, once with the Fugue), Op. 131, Op. 132, and Op. 135 - did your heart start to race reading that list?
