Event description

Description

The Acts of the Apostles, the second volume of Luke’s two-volume work, continues Luke’s presentation of biblical history, describing how the salvation promised to Israel in the Old Testament and accomplished by Jesus has now, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, been extended to the Gentiles.

Come learn more about this oft-overlooked section of the New Testament.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Katie Patrizio holds a Bachelor's degree in philosophy and theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville and a Master's degree in Biblical theology from John Paul the Great Catholic University in San Diego. Katie frequently speaks and teaches on theology and Scripture. This will be Katie's third summer teaching a course at All Saints.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When exactly are the classes?

The sessions are Tuesdays from 7:00-8:30pm beginning June 20th and ending on July 18th with a week off for the Fourth of July.

What if I can’t come to all the sessions?

Katie records all of her talks and will make them available online for one week following their delivery.

Will it be in the Church or the Hall?

The Hall! It’s easier to hear and there’s comfier seating.

Will there be homework?

In the past Katie has offered print and digital workbooks with her courses. She's been pretty busy lately and has not had time to write one for Acts. Sorry!

What if I’ve never really read the Bible?

Not a problem! St. Thomas Aquinas famously said that, “Scripture is like a river . . . broad and deep, shallow enough here for the lamb to go wading, but deep enough for the elephant to swim.” This course is the same way. If you know nothing about the Bible you’ll still be able to absorb as much as an armchair theologian.

No, really, I don’t know anything about the Bible. Am I going to be overwhelmed?

No, we assure you. Katie’s teaching style is extremely accessible. She’ll walk you through the basics, lay the foundation, and then take you by the hand through the Book of Acts.

Is this appropriate for children or teens? What about non-Catholics?

Yes! In the past Katie’s classes have included kids as young as 11. Katie has also been asked to speak on Scripture and Catholicism to groups of Methodists and in the past, participants have brought along non-Catholic family to enjoy the sessions.
