Event description
Join us for an artist talk every Wednesday in October with artists featured in the 2020 Book As Art, vol.8: Infinity Exhibition.

About this Event

Join us for an artist talk and interview with Peggy Johnston, who created the piece “Scorpius Anomalus,” which is a part of the 2020 The Book as Art v.8: Infinity exhibition. For more information about her work, visit the catalogue for the exhibition here: Book As Art: Infinity Catalogue

A lifelong artist, Peggy Johnston has combined her painting, printmaking, and design talents with traditional bookbinding techniques to create an array of blank journals and unique artist books. Her blank journals offer travelers, diarists, watercolorists, sketch artists, and anyone else a way to gather thoughts and ideas in an elegant handmade binding. The journals employ a variety of traditional binding techniques, some dating to the dawn of history. Those whose creativity knows no bounds will find Peggy’s expandable Neverending Journals ideal. Repurposed vintage book covers, bingo cards, six-packs, and other artifacts make up a line of more informal, sometimes whimsical, notebooks and journals. Hand-colored artist books combine original art with imaginative book forms to tell a story. Peggy’s decorative works include traditional column and urn forms folded from used books as well as her stunning mixed-media sculptures of fantastic otherworldly creatures. Incorporating bookbinding materials and techniques, found objects, and unusual papers, these one-of-a-kind sculptures create stories all their own. Peggy’s work is featured in private, university, and library collections worldwide, including the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. Her books and sculptures have also been chosen for numerous gallery shows and International book-art exhibitions.
