Schedule:

Tuesday, January 16th: 4pm - 7pm

Wed - Friday, 17th - 19th: 9am - 6pm

The workshop will be led and facilitated by Dr. Wallace "J" Nichols, author of the bestselling book Blue Mind, water visionary, boundary busting scientist, and leader of Blue Mind Life. Dr. Nichols will bring in many experts, researchers, and practitioners and guide participants on a wide range of field trips to help provide a stimulating and thought-provoking experience as we explore the human connection to both wild and domesticated waters.

Who will benefit from BME:

Blue Mind is Freakonomics meets "Your Brain on Water", and refers to the cumulative cognitive, emotional, psychological, social, and spiritual benefits of healthy waterways and oceans. This essential body of work enhances conversations about conservation and restoration by exploring the relationship between the human mind and water. Blue Mind principles continue to have direct implications in the nine major WET HEARTS sectors we work with:

  • Water + food infrastructure
  • Environment + conservation
  • Technology + innovation
  • Health + wellness
  • Education + parenting
  • Arts, architecture + design
  • Real estate + planning
  • Travel + leisure
  • Sports + recreation

We'll examine each of these sectors through the Seven Ages of Water: Birth through Death. All water professionals and advanced/graduate students will find personal and professional value in this workshop.

Venue:

We are absolutely thrilled to be hosting the Blue Mind Experience at the beautiful Wave Street Studio, a modern, sustianably designed, state of the art venue located in the heart of Monterey. Within walking distance of the area's best hotels, restaurants, attractions, and watery interests there's simply no better place to hold our workshop.

Book Night:

The evening of Thursday, January 18th we'll have a very special night of book talks with three of our favorite ocean authors, Jaimal Yogis, David Helvarg and James Nestor.

Along with the talk there will also be tamales and tequila. Join us for the full workshop or just come by for some casual T, T & T by the sea at the super cool Wave Street Studios.

Jaimal is the author of Saltwater Buddha, The Fear Project and All Our Waves Are Water. James is the author of DEEP. David is the author of Saved by the Sea, The Golden Shore, Rescue Warriors and Blue Frontier. All three authors have written extensively for many of your favorite magazines.

All of these books should be in your collection. Get your signed copies and some deeper insights into the minds of these three watermen in January.

This will really be a special night. There may be guitars.

Accomodations:

We will help you to find the best fit to meet your needs, from the Intercontinental Hotel, just steps away from our venue to the nearby hip hostel to a multi-bedroom AirBnB, Monterey has it all.

Joining us via livestream:

The Blue Mind Experience is timely and relevant, building upon a large body of work already put forth by Blue Mind Life, Dr. Nichols, and the greater Blue Mind network of researchers and practitioners. Because it is so important to share this information far and wide, a significant portion of the course will be recorded and livestreamed, resulting in the production of high quality video content to increase accessibility.

See you in Monterey!

We look forward to spending the week with you and helping build your personal and professional Blue Mind toolbox on the Monterey Bay.

We wish you water,

The Blue Mind Life Team
