Event description
The Black Woman is God: Reclaim, Reconfigure, Re-Remember exhibition is open to the public, with donation-based, timed ticketed entry.

About this Event

Now in its fourth iteration at SOMArts, The Black Woman is God reveals a community of Black women artists that pay homage to their complex creative practices that have influenced the world, but are often overlooked because of the intersections class, race, and gender discrimination. The Black Woman is God: Reclaim, Reconfigure, and Re-Remember gives Black women their flowers, affirming that they are essential to building a more just society and a sustainable future.

This exhibition reclaims physical spaces that have historically been denied to Black women artists, and reconfigures communal trauma through healing, African diasporic traditions and practices. The community connections made through this movement building platform are all designed to re-remember, which is to recognize who Black people are as human beings and their contributions to African-American culture as well as the Global African Diaspora.

The Black Woman is God: Reclaim, Reconfigure, Re-Remember is open to the public Thursday, November 7–Saturday, December 7, 2020 with timed ticketing entry.

Tickets are available with the suggested donation of $10, with no one turned away for lack of funds. During this time when so many artists and organizations are struggling financially, we deeply appreciate your support!

Ensuring the safety of our guests and staff is of utmost importance to us, and we’ve provided information below to help plan your visit:

  • To ensure space for social distancing, all guests must reserve a ticket for a specific date and entry time. Tickets are available every 30 minutes. So if you reserve a ticket for 12:00pm, you have until 12:30 to arrive.
  • If you arrive after your ticketed entry “window” of 30 minutes, SOMArts staff may need to delay your entry until social distancing guidelines allow us to let you in.
  • Be prepared to give your name at check in (you do not need to print your ticket or have it ready to scan).
  • All guests are required to sign in upon arrival for contact tracing purposes. The form will be accessible by a QR code and all information submitted is confidential. If you are having difficulty or do not have access to a smartphone, a SOMArts staff member will be available to assist you. Children will need a parent or guardian to fill out a form for them.
  • To request an accommodation or for inquiries about accessibility, please contact Carolina Quintanilla, carolina@somarts.org.
  • If you need assistance or have questions during your visit, please contact a SOMArts staff member. They will be located at the check in desk and throughout the building, and can be identified by their badge.

Mandatory Building Guidelines

  • If you have a cough, fever, or have come in contact with someone who has been sick, we request that you do not visit SOMArts.
