Event description

Description

100 Black Men of Metropolitan Houston is proud to announce The Black Vitamin: A Health & Wellness Summit, taking place on March 14, 2020.

Attendees will rotate through separate sessions and there will be separate tracks, one for middle school-age boys, high school-age boys, and one for adult men. There will also be sessions for women participants too at the same time as those for the men! Both breakfast and lunch will be provided for summit attendees.

The lunch keynote speaker for this year, open to all attendees, will be Dr. Rheeda Walker from the University of Houston. Dr. Walker is a licensed clinical psychologist whose program of research emphasizes two understudied areas - suicide science and African-American adult mental health. Communities throughout the United States are chronically underserved in part due to social and cultural barriers. This is perhaps especially true of mental health initiatives. All of Dr. Walker’s scholarly work has focused on suicide and its correlates toward the primary goal of developing culturally-relevant models of mental health and well-being

She is also the author of the forthcoming book The Unapologetic Guide to Black Mental Health: Navigate an Unequal System, Learn Tools for Emotional Wellness, and Get the Help you Deserve.

Attire for our mentees (and prospective mentees) is the 100BMOH mentee t-shirt or a dark-colored shirt (tucked in) and brown khaki pants or blue jeans (no shorts) with a belt.

See you on Saturday!
