Event description
Join Afro Van Connect alongside Asha Wheeldon, Dr. Dorian Holmes & Dora Kamau for an evening of exploration of self-love, food & wellness

About this Event

Join Afro Van Connect alongside Asha Wheeldon from Kula Kitchen, Dr. Dorian Holmes and Dora Kamau for an evening of exploration of self-love, food, and wellness.

This event is a part of the Black Love Series that focuses on self-love and the importance of being tuned into our ancestral connections. It recognizes the trauma, silence, disconnection, displacement, and marginalization of youth in our community. Through Hip Hop and spoken word, we express these connected dialogues of learning and growing through our open story sharing, encouraging our healing in brave spaces. Each shared piece explores our Diaspora Authentic Voices. It’s our aim to support and encourage the young, black and gifted to tap into their gifts and rise.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

A discussion on the healing properties of eating seasonal and ancestral foods led by Dr. Dorian Holmes. A live food demonstration by Asha Wheeldon showing us how to prepare simple and easy dishes that are nourishing for the mind, body, and soul. Meditation and moments of mindful eating led by Dora Kamau

WHERE: ArtStarts, 808 Richards St, Vancouver BC V6B 3A7

WHEN: 6:30PM - 9:30PM February 21st

INVESTMENT: $40 with sponsorship spots available, please send us an e-mail if you would like to attend but do not have the funds!

These BLACK SPACES give young creatives the opportunity to come and express themselves, share ideas and connect. They are established to create opportunities for youth of African Descent to access equipment, education, training, networks and opportunities, empowering them to creatively and economically flourish; building on their unique gifts and perspective from their heritage and diaspora cultural experiences.
