About this event

The B.L.A.C.K Course is facilitating the 45 Hour Lactation Course led by and for aspiring Black lactation professionals and Non-Black Accomplices supporting Black Communities. The Course will be taught in Phoenix, Arizona; Monday, August 15 to Friday, August 19, 2022.

This 45 hours course qualifies towards to IBLCE 95 lactation specific educational hours required for the IBCLC exam. CERPs are being applied for currently.

Course Meeting Times:

  • Registration Starts at 8:30 AM
  • Class starts daily at 9 AM
  • Class ends daily at 6 PM
  • Breaks will be provided every 2 hours (approximately)- (2) 10-15 minutes and 1 hour for lunch

The Course Fee is $750 + Processing Fees. However, the cost of the course has been covered by the ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES and INDIGENIOUS LACTATION COUNSELOR Team.

Our hosts for this training are Modaba and Cihuapactli.

This event is open to Black and Indigenous Arizona residents ONLY.

COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

  1. COVID Testing on Day 1 and 3 of the course are required for all adult attendees. Tests will be provided.
  2. Daily temperature checks and questionnaire screenings are required. Attendees with any symptoms including elevated temperatures will not be allowed to attend or complete the in-person course. Special accommodations will be made in these cases for students to take a future virtual cohort.
  3. Masks are optional, but recommend.
  4. Social distancing is required - space will be limited and registration limits will reflect this requirement.
  5. COVID-19 Vaccines are highly recommended, but not required.

Please Note:

  • COVID-19 Protocols adherence are required to attend
  • Students must attend all sessions to receive 45 lactation education hours and complete all course work to be eligible for certification and validation of hours.
  • We suggest birth workers schedule back up support for births as you will be held to attendance requirements.
  • Registered students will receive an email once registration close that includes course requirements including information about homework, evaluations, quiz, and participation.
  • Registration for this cohort cannot be transferred to another cohort; including virtual cohorts - outside of the above COVID-19 PROTOCOLS.
  • Course Topics: Breastfeeding via the diasporic view, the effects of generational oppression and racism on breastfeeding, Anatomy, Counseling, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, and more!
