Event description

Description

The Berkshire Eagle and Berkshire Museum partner for the next installment in The Eagle’s Conversation Series featuring three experts on climate change and sustainability. Join us for a conversation about the state of the planet and what the future holds for humankind and all species of life, as well as how we can take action at the community level.

Elizabeth Kolbert won the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for her book “The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History.” A resident of Williamstown, she is a journalist and visiting fellow at Williams College. Her award-winning book highlighted the possibility and evidence of a new mass extinction due to human activity. Kolbert has written for the New York Times and The New Yorker.

Kim Cobb is the Georgia Power chair and professor in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology. She is also the director of its Global Change Program. Cobb studies corals and cave stalagmites to probe the mechanisms of past, present and future climate change. A Pittsfield native, Cobb was called by Congress to testify on climate change earlier this year.

Olivia Georgia is the executive director of City as Living Laboratory (CALL) in New York City. She is dedicated to enhancing the role community museums play in curating conversations to educate constituents on the synergies between history, science, art and society. Her work focuses on the nexus of art and sustainable development.

Berkshire Museum Cocktail and dinner tickets include a cocktail reception at the museum at 5:30pm as well as a dinner with the panelists after the Conversation, at approximately 8:00pm.
