FAQ's

Will this tour be historically narrated? No it will not. There are separate historical tours scheduled throughout the year that offer accompanying narration . This particular tour is specifically for photography. A map will be provided with the location of recommended landmarks to photograph and a host will be available on each side of Deep Creek to provide guidance and to answer questions.

How many other photographers will be there? Guests will be split into two separate groups . Group "A" will begin on the Belmead/St. Emma side of the property and Group "B" will begin on the St. Francis de Sales side of the property. After a few hours, you will switch venues. The total window of opportunity to take photographs is 6 hours.

Can we photograph the interiors of the two main buildings? You may photograph the beautiful interior of the Belmead Mansion. The St. Francis de Sales Girls School is condemned and inaccessible but the iconic altar in the attached chapel can be photographed from the outdoor entrance. A tripod is a must for this shot. To gain perspective and to help you better understand which focal lengths will be best to capture this image, I have included two examples below. The portrait version of the altar was shot with an 85mm lens and the landscape version was shot with a 50mm lens - both full frame ( please take any DX crop ratios into consideration ).

What photography gear should I bring? A tripod for the interior of the Belmead mansion and the solo chapel shot from the entrance is absolutely necessary. A wide angle lens is also required for the building exteriors and some landscape opportunities. I would also suggest that you bring prime or zoom lenses with focal lengths ranging from 24mm-120mm for any interior detail shots.

Are drones permitted? Drones are not permitted on the Belmead/St. Emma side of the property because the area is also shared by an Equestrian Club and horses react adversely to drones. Drones ARE permitted on the St. Francis side of the property since there are no horse trails there.

What is the weather policy? Since the majority of this program takes place outside, the organizer reserves the right to cancel it in the event of inclement weather. Full refunds will be issued in the event of a cancellation.

I am coming from out of town and was wondering if there is lodging on the property? Primitive camping is available on the property. There are also other overnight accommodations as well should you be interested in spending the night. Please message John Plashal at "john@johnplashalphoto.com" if you are interested in learning more about overnight accommodations.

What restroom facilities are available during the tour? There are 2 bathrooms on the Belmead / St. Emma side of the property and one on the St. Francis side of the property.

What is the cancellation policy? You can cancel up to 7 days before the event and still receive a full refund. The event will also be cancelled due to forecasted inclement weather. Cancellations within 7 days will not be refunded but you can receive a rain check for a future tour.

Who do I contact with questions? Please contact John Plashal @ "john@johnplashalphoto.com" with questions.

Do I need to bring my own water? No. Waters will be provided throughout the tour but food will not.

Are pets allowed? Pets are not allowed

Can you recommend a local eatery for lunch before we arrive? Yes. The Cafe at Maidens is a hidden gem of a restaurant with a very tasty menu if you would like to grab a tasty late breakfast or early lunch before the tour begins. They close at 2:30PM.
