Event description

Description

Bees are our most important pollinators and they are in decline the world over. They love to live in urban environments, where it's a short flight path from one type of plant to the next. But conventional gardens that favour lawns and pesticides over flowers and edible plants are scaring the good bugs away.

This workshop is a great guide for all gardeners of all size gardens on encouraging bees and other good bugs to your green space. You'll learn how to plant for pollinators, why your garden needs them, and the simple steps you can take to help bees. We'll finish with the fruits of their labour, a honey tasting.

Suitable for: All ages.

Provided: Tea, and honey tasting.

Bring: Paper + pen.

Our teacher: Doug Purdie is the co-founder of The Urban Beehive, which manages over 100 hives around Sydney. He teaches beginner beekeeping courses and is the author of Backyard Bees and The Bee Friendly Garden. He fell in love with bees ever since discovering that they were under threat from pests, diseases and lack of forage.
