Description

The 2017 Battle of the Hustle & Muscle: A showcase of speed and strength presented by Tobin Hill CrossFit benefiting the VFW Post 76 in San Antonio Texas.

This competition is benefiting our veterans and will be held at the VFW Post 76, the oldest post in Texas. Proceeds will go to support the veteran's relief fund, a fund that assists local veterans in need. Don't miss out on the opportunity to paritipate in the this unique competition and support those who have served our country.

Teams of two will enter the competition in one of three divisions, Male, Female or Co-Ed. Each team will consist of a runner, the “Hustle”, and a lifter, the “Muscle.” Each member will compete individually in their respective event for a score that will be ranked with the other competitors in their division. 1st place will be equivalent to 1 point, 2nd place equals 2 points, 3rd place equals 3 points, etc. Each member's score will be added with their teammate’s for a combined total.

First up, the Hustle.

A 10 minute clock will be started for each team’s runner to complete a 1 mile run. Upon returning, each runner will use the remaining time to complete as many Burpees to Plate (B2P) as possible until the 10 minute clock expires. Each B2P completed will be worth a half of a second deduction from their run time. {Example: Hustler A runs a 7:00 min mile, then returns and completes 30 B2P with the remaining 3 minutes. Hustler A will have earned a 15 second deduction for a total time of 6:45.}

Now onto the second event, the Muscle.

All lifters will begin together on the same 10 minute clock. In this time, each participant will have ONLY 10 attempts at successfully completing an Olympic lift of their choice between the Snatch or Clean & Jerk. The attempted lifts may be any combination of order and/or weight with no restriction on increase or decrease of weight on the bar. The value of a completed Snatch is equal to 2X the weight lifted and the value of a completed Clean & Jerk is equal to 1.5X the weight lifted. Missed lifts and “No Reps” will be worth 0 points. Upon completion of the 10 lift attempts, the Muscle may use any time remaining to complete as many Burpees over the Bar (BotB) for an extra 5 points per burpee completed added to their score. {Example: Muscle A completes 4 Snatches each at 200lbs, misses the 5th Snatch attempt, then completes a 300lb Clean & Jerk on each of the next 5 attempts. The 10 attempts are completed in 8 minutes and with remaining 2 minutes on the clock, Muscle A completes 20 BotB. This lifter’s score will be: ((200lbs x2) x4 completions)) + ((300lbs x1.5) x5 completions)) + (20 burpees x 5pts) = 3950}

STANDARDS

Run: Run

Burpees: Chest and thighs touch the ground at the same time. For B2P the athlete drops then jumps up onto a 45lb plate with both feet to complete the rep. For BotB, the athlete may either perform a bar-facing or lateral-to-bar burpee. They may either jump or step over the barbell to complete the rep.

Snatch: The lift starts with the bar on the ground and in a single movement the lifter moves the bar to the over head position. The lifter must show control of the weight in the OH position and have both feet on the ground. The lifter may complete a Power or Full Snatch but must end in the standing, over head position and wait to receive a down command from the judge before releasing the bar. Press outs will be allowed. No Hang Snatch variations will be accepted.

Clean & Jerk: Two part movement. The lift starts with the bar on the ground and in a single upward movement, the lifter moves the bar to the front rack position. The lifter must then stand upright with the bar on top of their shoulders. Then the lifter completes the lift by moving the weight overhead and returning to a standing, upright position while showing control of the weight. The weight may be returned to the ground after a down command is given by the judge. Again power varieties are acceptable as are press outs. No Hang Clean variations are allowed.
