Description

The 2nd Annual Bare Hair 5/10k run/walk

-benefitting The National Alopecia Areata Foundation and the Children's Alopecia Project

Alopecia is an autoimmune disease that causes people to lose their hair. It starts as alopecia areata, which presents as patchy bald spots. It can progress to alopecia totalis, which is complete loss of hair on the head, or alopecia universalis, which means you lose all the hair on your body. It is unpredictable and so far has taken all of the hair on my daughter's head. It has been heartbreaking to watch my spunky, smart, beautiful daughter lose her hair and struggle with all that means. The unkind words from classmates, the strange looks in public, and being asked over and over, “So what is WRONG with you?”

Please help us do the only thing we can to fight this disease-raise funds for more research and awareness about this disease.

100% of the proceeds from the 5/10k will go to The National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF) and the Children's Alopecia Project (CAP). NAAF supports research of the causes and treatments of alopecia areata. They also advocate for children around the country struggling with alopecia areata and host patient conferences to help understand and cope with this disease. CAP holds camps for youth struggling with all forms of alopecia to build their self-esteem and confidence.

You can to go www.naaf.org to learn more about alopecia areata and NAAF or to http://childrensalopeciaproject.org/ to learn more about CAP.
