The Artist Room presents

Kristina Wong's "Discharges from American History"

Why blow big bucks on Hamilton tickets when you can witness the Bowels of American History for less? For two days only, Performance Artist Kristina Wong and her cast of Arizona’s finest “re-enactors” replay the seedy and scandalous history of politicians in hotel rooms-- in an actual hotel room! Feel the rush of Watergate! Get a contact high from Marion Barry’s crack pipe! Be seduced by political mistresses! Golden showers of education and laughter guaranteed!

The Arizona Study Abroad Players
Artistic Director Kristina Wong
Associate Artistic Director Mathew Sandoval
With additional direction by Jenessa Joffe

Formed on June 18, 2017, we are a company committed to bringing the worst of American history to life in realistic re-enactments. Some of us are neither actors by trade nor aspire to do this professionally. What we do know is that only by stepping into the shoes of a real life scandal, do we illuminate the worst of American humanity for your theatrical enjoyment.

How the Artist Room Works:
An intimate audience (up to eight people at a time) will enter the Artist Room hotel room at Washington Square Hotel for a fully immersive and interactive performance, unlike anything else you have experienced.

To Purchase Ticket:
First select your date (dates default to 7pm start time - just ignore it. It's ok. We promise. Keep going)
Then select "Buy Tickets". You will be able to select your exact performance time here.
If you would like to attend the Artist Room with a friend/enemy/lover, make sure you purchase tickets for the same time slot.

House Rules
Please arrive 5-10 minutes before your ticketed start time.
Late arrivals will not be able to join the performance once in progress.
No photography or recording is allowed inside the performance. This is an immersive experience. The performers may interact with you and you may be exposed to sights, sounds, and sensations unlike a typical theatrical performance.
Animals are not allowed inside the Artist Room.

About Kristina Wong

Kristina Wong was recently featured in the New York Times’ Off Color series “highlighting artists of color who use humor to make smart social statements about the sometimes subtle, sometimes obvious ways that race plays out in America today.” She is a performance artist, comedian and writer who has created five solo shows and one ensemble play that have toured across North America and the UK. Her most notable touring show– “Wong Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” looked at the high rates of depression and suicide among Asian American women and toured dozens of venues across the United States since 2006. It’s now a broadcast quality film distributed by Cinema Libre Studios. She’s been a commentator for American Public Media’s Marketplace, PBS, Jezebel, xoJane, Playgirl Magazine, Huffington Post and a guest on Comedy Central’s The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, FXX’s “Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell,” Al Jazeera’s “The Stream” and AM Tonight on Fusion TV. Her work has been awarded with grants from Creative Capital, The Map Fund, Center for Cultural Innovation, the Durfee Foundation, National Performance Network, and six Artist-in-Residence grants from the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. She’s been awarded residencies from the MacDowell Colony, New York Theater Workshop, Ojai Playwrights Festival, Montalvo Center for the Arts, Hermitage, and Atlantic Center for the Arts. On television, she’s been on General Hospital, Nickelodeon’s “Nicky Ricky Dicky and Dawn,” and Myx TV’s “I’m Asian American and Want Reparations for Yellow Fever.” Her newest solo show “The Wong Street Journal” navigates White Privilege as an Asian American “Mzungu” in East Africa. She spent a month in Northern Uganda recording a hit rap album “Mzungu Price” with local rappers and doing research for that show. Kristina’s mail order bride website is www.bigbadchinesemama.com. She has taught at Cal Arts in the MFA Creative Writing Program and twice given the commencement speech at UCLA, her alma mater.
