The Artist Is Not Alone
Overview
The Artist is Not Alone is a curated aesthetic experience to cure loneliness at the end of the world. We will gather artists, makers, and dreamers for a night of community, creativity, and conversations at BREAD & SALT in Barrio Logan. The evening will unfold in two parts: an interactive cocktail hour and featured performances.
During the cocktail hour, guests will have the opportunity to:
- create music with local producers
- write & discuss literature with award winning poets
- shoot and receive film portraits with friends
- and connect meaningfully with kindred strangers
all while engaging with the work of some of San Diego’s favorite artists, including pinup photographer & DJ Susana Vestige, visual artist & photographer Sarah Shreves, photographer Mstah Freeze, and more!
We’ll make conversations easy with guided prompts to help nudge everyone to share stories and discuss the creative work that moves us. And of course, there’s the option to just vibe out and socialize as our DJ’s spin songs to cure sadness, while enjoying local food from Hell Yeah Helena! and light refreshments, sponsored by STRIVE Soda. (All ages, 21+ to drink!)
After the cocktail hour, we will transition to powerful performances by acclaimed spoken word poet Ajanaé Dawkins and emerging singer/songwriter Shua, both of whom embody our core themes of making and finding beauty in a lonely world.
These featured performances will be followed by a panel discussion on how making art and experiencing the art of others can ease the burdens of isolation and alienation by connecting us to others, ourselves, and a deeper spiritual reality. We will also discuss the importance of making art in difficult and disruptive times. Importantly, 50% of proceeds will be donated to Monarch School, which partners with unhoused students in SD and TJ!
Other highlights of the evening include:
- Live screen printing & limited edition shirts by Sunsets & Brainwaves
- His & Hers pop up vintage clothes shop from Pearl Vintage & Jon Doe Co
- Community table with info on other creative events & communities in SD
- And more!
