Join us on Wednesday, February 27.

The Art of the Trailer

Join us as we devote much of the night to the art of trailers.We will welcome veteran editor David Yocum who will show us how he created the award winning teaser trailer for the Academy Award nominated movie, Bohemian Rhapsody. In addition David will discuss the elements that go into making an effective trailer. Lots of trailer examples will be shown.

David will be joined by composer David James Rosen co-founder of TOTEM a boutique music and sound design library focused on theatrical marketing.

Also Garen VandeBeek, the Ex. VP & Creative Director for the CBS Marketing Group, will show and tell on how do you create an effective trailer. He will use the recent Twilight Zone Trailer featuring Jordan Peele that aired during the Super Bowl. Garen will also show other examples of effective television trailers and why they worked.

Also, Producer/Editor Ric Thomas will show and tell on "Trailer Making for International Audiences."

Plus Stump the Gurus and World Famous Raffle.

6:45- 7:15PM - Stump The Gurus
Join Gurus Patrick Southern, Michael Kammes, Adam Bedford and Jason Bowdach, as they will attempt to answer all of your questions and solve all of your problems concerning Resolve and FCPX, Avid, Premiere Pro and anything else you can think of. If they can't solve your problem or answer your question, then you go home with a problem, but you still got out of the house, so that's not a bad thing.

7:20PM - 7:55PM - Trailer Making for International Audiences - Ric Thomas
Ric will discuss the increasingly important international film market and the challenges of creating different campaigns for different markets - with different languages, cultures and tastes. He’ll show examples of his trailer work from domestic and international, and other key examples.

Ric Thomas is an award winning Producer-Editor with 14 Years experience of international and domestic film marketing. He has worked in London, New York and LA creating Trailer, TV and Digital campaigns for films such as “Greta”, “The Lego Movie 2”, “Kingsman”, “Jurassic World”, “Bad Neighbors” and “Finding Dory”.

7:55- 8:30PM - How do you create an effective trailer/promo for TV. - Garen VandeBeek
Especially when you don’t have any footage? Garen will discuss the creation of the Twilight Zone trailer aired in the Super Bowl and voted one of the top ten spots in the game by dozens of media outlets.
Garen will also show other examples of effective television trailers and why they worked.


About Garen VandeBeek.
Garen van de Beek is the Ex. VP & Creative Director for the CBS Marketing Group based in Los Angeles.
Mr. van de Beek’s responsibilities include Promotion and Advertising for the CBS Network as well as the new streaming service, CBS All Access.
His team has created numerous award-winning campaigns for shows including The Big Bang Theory, Survivor, Star Trek: Discovery and is currently working on the launch of The Twilight Zone reimagined by Jordan Peele. Mr. van de Beek has been with CBS for over 20 years. CBS is America’s Most Watched Network.

8:30PM- 8:55PM - Break
This is the most important part of the show. It's networking time. This is a great opportunity to not only ask questions and get problems solved, but to meet people that just might change your life. Edit5 Consoles will be in lobby showing off Editing tables and chairs. Get to the Gallery early for this show. Snack bar will be be open for $1.00 water, God awful bad wine and good beer. And FREE cookies courtesy of the Girl Scouts.

8:55PM - 9:55PM - The Art of the Trailer - Creating the Bohemian Rhapsody Trailer - David Yocum and David James Rosen
David Yocum will show how he created the Bohemian Rhapsody teaser trailer, (Clio Silver winner for Best Teaser, editing and music.) beginning with combing through over a hundreds hours of dailies. David will be joined by composer David James Rosen whose contirbution to this trailer was significant to say the least. In addition David Yocum will discuss the elements that go into making an effective trailer. Lots of trailer examples will be shown.
