Interactive Workshop: The Art of Revision - The End is Just The Beginning
Author Samantha Hoffman (What More Could You Wish For) shows you how to polish up your work to hook potential readers (i.e., agents and publishers).
If you've finished a first draft of a novel, or even if you have a novel in progress, congratulations! You probably have an overwhelming temptation to start sending it out to agents. But hold on…you have only one chance to get someone interested. Make sure your work is the best it can be before you release it to the public.
This workshop will teach you how to start with your first draft as foundation and move painlessly through the revision process to create a book you’ll be proud of, one that has a better chance of being published. Writers with a completed manuscript or work-in-progress are welcome to attend.
Participants are invited to submit the first chapter of their work-in-progress for use in a workshop exercise. We will evaluate your first page as a group to see if it has the elements to hook your reader, i.e. an agent. Not all submissions will be used, but all will receive a brief evaluation.
What can/can't I bring to the event?
All registered attendees will have the option to send a manuscript portion to Samantha after they register; check your email for details. Please bring a chapter of your work, and something to take notes with.
Is my registration/ticket transferrable?
Yes, but you must contact us first. Email contact [at] chicagowritersconference.org.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
What is the refund policy?
See our Cancellation Policy.
The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?
Nope. We need all attendees to match our roster. If you wish to transfer your registration to someone else, please contact us.
