A local favorite who has made numerous appearances at Gallery 345 (Westwood Concerts chamber music series and Millar Piano Duo), pianist Gregory Millar returns to give a long-awaited solo recital. His program presents two 19th century masterpieces set into relief by a complementary pair of works from each of the 18th and 20th centuries.

Millar made his professional debut at age 18 with a solo recital in his hometown of Lachine, QC, after being awarded that city’s prestigious mérite culturel prize. He has since led a career as a versatile solo performer and chamber musician that has brought him to several Canadian provinces, the Northeastern United States, and Belgium. His playing has been described as “compelling... a tour de force... devastatingly beautiful.” (The Muskokan)

Millar is featured on two CDs of chamber music by Toronto composer Frank Horvat – Me to We and The Current Agenda – released in 2017. He gave the premiere of Colin Eatock’s Book of Saints as well first complete performance of Jean Coulthard’s 13 Preludes. As a concerto soloist, Millar has performed with the Kindred Spirits Orchestra and the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra. He has partnered with many prominent artists and ensembles, including violinist Jasper Wood, soprano Melanie Conly, actress Theresa Tova, the Talisker Players and the Venuti String Quartet. Millar also has served as resident collaborative pianist for the Kendall Betts Horn Camp in New Hampshire and the Banff Centre’s summer masterclass program.

Millar holds a DMA from the Eastman School of Music, a MusM from the University of Toronto, a BMus from McGill University and an Artist Diploma from the Glenn Gould School. In addition to performing, Millar teaches private lessons in piano and theory, and currently is engaged as a Subject Matter Expert for an online harmony course in development at the Royal Conservatory of Music.
