Description

In conjunction with THE best design exhibition during Detroit Design Festival, Jim Miller Melberg : The Art of Play, Lawrence Technoligical Institute/Detroit Center for Design + Technology and Detroit Art & Business Institute are thrilled to present this important panel discussion on

Using Jim Miller Melberg’s Form, Inc. playscapes as a starting point, this panel will look at how art and architecture come together in the making of vibrant public spaces. Miller Melberg’s innovative approach to the “art of play” changed the way children experienced the world around them. What can we learn from the playground that can inform how we create quality spaces?

Other questions/themes:

  • How can art and architecture be leveraged to celebrate and enhance local character?
  • What place-based strategies can bring the revitalizing power of arts and culture to urban design?
  • What is placemaking and can it be a public-private venture?

This panel discussion is free and open to artists, designers, urban architects, commuity leads and the general public. Also, lease join us for the exhibit opening as well as our additional programming The Art of Making panel talk
