Event description

Description

Pie making is an American tradition from lemon with mile high meringue in the summer to the classic apple celebrating fall harvest and, of course, pumpkin for Thanksgiving. Now-a-days schedules are so busy that fewer people are baking pies from scratch. With the advent of frozen pie crust and canned fillings it seems so quick and easy to rely on convenience products rather than do our baking from scratch.

Saturday, November 11, Holly Tatnall will offer a basic pie making class at the Cortez Cultural Center. Participants will learn pie pastry and filling techniques and go home with one double crust apple pie and a pumpkin pie - just in time for Thanksgiving, if you can wait that long!

Holly has been baking for more years than she cares to admit, and pies and pastry are special favorites of hers. Just recently retired from the catering business as a co-owner of Seas’nings catering, she has also worked as an extension agent in San Juan County, Utah and Eagle County, Colorado. She is a graduate of Colorado State University with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Family and Consumer Science. She has also attended San Francisco Baking School for several specialty baking classes.

Registration closes November 3, or when class is full.

Class size limited to 8.

Lunch and supplies included.
