The Art of Kokedama

About this Event
Create mini gardens in your home using a modern Japanese gardening method called Kokedama. Join a Cumberland County Extension Master Gardener and Therapeutic Horticulturist from Cape Fear Botanical Garden, as she provides hands-on instructions on how to make a variety of moss ball gardens with herbs, houseplants, and succulents which will bring your indoor and outdoor garden rooms to life! Tips will be given on care and maintaining your plants.
Build your own garden Kokedama art along with the instructor. Supplies needed:
Small potted plant (2” o 4” pot size) (ferns, tropical house plant, vining plant (pathos, spider, philodendron, violet, etc), or small herbs)
Potting mix for cactus or succulents (1-2 cups per each moss ball)
Small amount of clay soil (optional) *Special volcanic clay soil (Akadama) can be purchased online but is not required
Sphagnum sheet moss - enough to cover the size of moss ball you will make - one sheet covers one moss ball
Jute twine, waxed string, etc
Scissors
Water
Spray bottle filled with water
Gloves
Large bowl to moisten moss
Potting tray or bowl to mix and moisten soil
Small hand towel and broom to clean up
