Event description

Description

The Franklin D. Reeves Center will showcase a unique exhibition featuring Iowa artist Jean Berry on February 2, 2018. The Art of Jean Berry exhibit will feature over 40 works by Berry, including her highly regarded Book of Job and Saints of Egypt Series drawings, as well as pastels and prints that span decades. In addition, the exhibition will launch Berry’s first-book collection of her work titled The Art of J. Berry Vol 1. Faces by author D.D. Curry. The publication includes over 20 charcoal and color drawings that depict Berry’s mastery of light, line, color, and shape to express universal human emotions.

At age 79, Berry shows no signs of slowing down. Berry’s most acclaimed works are widely considered to be her charcoal drawings inspired by scenes from the bible including her Book of Job series and the lives of ordinary people. Berry says she wants her art to evoke an emotional response from those who view it. Her subjects are people and her art explores their differences using representative or abstract images. Each piece invites the viewer on a journey into the artist’s pursuit of her passion. Berry is an extraordinary artist whose work merits the attention of a wider audience.

Please go to www.jeanberryart.com to learn more about Berry and to view some of her amazing work. Also, please contribute to Berry's Gofundme page at https://www.gofundme.com/mother-berrys-art-campaign. Your contributions, in any amount, will help cover the cost of the exhibit and will also be used to defray some of Berry's travel expenses.

The public is invited to join Berry and special guest, Miss DC 2017, at the Franklin D. Reeves Center, 2000 14th Street, NW, Washington, DC, on Friday evening, February 2, 2018, 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Light hor d'oeuvres will be provided while they last. Register now. Admission is free.
