The Art of Henna/Mendhi

Henna/Mendhi is an ancient Indian art of applying temporary tattoos to hands, feet and other parts of the body. Traditionally used to mark auspicious occasions in the Indian culture, henna has now gained immense popularity around the world.

In this class Tyra will talk about how to make henna using a mixture of dried henna leaves and essential oils to create a paste, demonstrate how to apply the henna, and will share the symbolism and energy of particularly intricate designs and patterns. Then we will practice! Drawing on paper first, then trying out designs out on a (new) friend :)


If this is your first time attending a barter-based skills-trade class, note that there are no fees for participating but attendees are encouraged to bring an item to offer in exchange for the knowledge shared in addition to any supplies required for the class. Facilitator's preferred items are listed on every class listing. Barter items are not required - do not let barter be a barrier for your participation :)
