The Art of Facilitation Level I Training

Want to make a difference in the life of a teen?

In this experiential training, you will learn how to offer and practice leading safe, welcoming teen talking circles in your community. You will learn how to access a deeper connection to yourself and others, as well as best practices developed over 25 years of leading circles.

Remembering what it felt like to be a teen is the best way to understand what teens are going through, how to be with them, and how to help them feel safe enough to open up about their lives. You will experience what it's like to be in a circle by remembering what it felt like to be a teen and exploring the issues you may still carry from your teen years. This is a critical element in the training since teens only share as much of themselves as the facilitator is willing to open themselves to hearing without judgment or criticism. By making peace with your own teen years, you will not only experience healing, but you will also expand your capacity to be present to and supportive of teens.

As we delve into the teen years, you discover what it is teens need to be able to hear themselves, express themselves, speak their truth, and experience belonging. You will learn how to hold transformational space, expand perspectives, and hold complexity by understanding the latest in the field of human development. You will also learn skills in nonviolent communication, conflict resolution, and compassionate listening.

About TTC:  TTC was born in 1993 as part of the research for the book Daughters of the Moon, Sisters of the Sun, by K. Wind Hughes and Linda Wolf. Daughters of the Moon is a book by, for, and about teen girls. Inspired as a gift for our Founder Linda Wolf’s own coming–of-age daughters, the award-winning book sold over 50,000 copies and birthed the Daughters Sisters Project, which became Teen Talking Circles in 2001.

The video above shares responses by teen girls to the question, why do I love my girl's circle?

About the Trainers: Linda Wolf and senior teen talking circle facilitators will be your trainers. Linda brings 25 years of experience to the field of nonprofit leadership, education, group process, and human development. She has real-world knowledge of systems and best practices, and contagious enthusiasm and positive energy.

"More than ever, I think what we are hungry for, really starved for, is the truth. To hear the truth, and also to have a safe place where we can speak the truth, and share the truth of our experience. This is crucial for all of us. It's crucial for older people, for younger people, it's crucial for men and for women. It can be truly life-saving in such a simple, direct way." Jean Kilbourne, Author, Killing Us Softly; past president of the TTC board

Pricing: Tuition covers the TTC Facilitators Training, Handbook, and coffee, tea, snacks, and lunch. The fees do not cover lodging. We recommend participants find their own lodging on Bainbridge Island with friends, at local bed & breakfasts, or hotels. There are lovely places to stay on the island.

Please note, refund policy is as follows:

$150 non-refundable registration fee (covers handbook and administrative costs).
--Cancellations more than 30 days from the training, will be refunded minus the non-refundable registration fee.
