Event description

Description

**Are you already crocheting? This workshop allows drop-ins for students familiar with techniques taught in earlier classes, OR you can sign up for all 5 and get the 5th class free! See dates and ticket types for more info.**

This 5 class workshop will teach the basics of crochet, and will include learning techniques such as: chaining, turning a chain, increasing and decreasing stitches, and the different types of crocheting (single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet). In each class, you will learn how to make something to take home with you: Granny Square, a Pot Holder, a Scarf, a Hat, and a Cowl.

Jan 6, 2018
Class 1: Beginners/Single Crochet. Granny Squares for Everyone!

Learn the very basics of Crocheting. We’ll watch a half hour video on the very basic principles before learning how to: hold your hook properly, make a slip knot (foundation of your chain), make a chain, turn a chain, and make a single crochet stitch. Once these skills are learned and everyone feels comfortable, we will move on to make a Granny Square using a single stitch.

Jan 13, 2018
Class 2: Beginners/Half Double Crochet. Pot Holders for the Holidays!

In the first class, you learned many valuable skills for crocheting; how to hold your hook, making a slip knot, forming a foundation chain, turning a chain and how to make a single crochet (sc). In this second class, we will reiterate the skills obtained from class one, and then learn how to make a half double crochet (hdc). If you are already familiar with the basics of crocheting, you may jump right into this second class. In the first class, you made a granny square. And in this class, we will expand upon that idea and make a pot holder.

Jan 20, 2018
Class 3: Beginners/Double Crochet. Brrr… it’s cold out there, let’s make a Scarf!

In this class we will go over the skills learned in class one and two. If you are already familiar what was taught in class one and two, please feel free to attend this class. You will learn how to make a double crochet and why it’s different from a half double crochet. Finally, I will show you how to make scarf using the three different types of stitches (sc, hdc, dc).

Jan 27, 2018
Class 4: Decreasing and Increasing Crochet Stitches/A Cowl for the Magazines!

In class four, we will reiterate what you learned in classes one through three. And help with any questions you may have or go over anything that’s giving you any issues with the different types of stitches, and/or turning chains. If you are already familiar with what was taught in classes one through three, please feel free to jump right in to class four. You will learn how to decrease and increase stitches using the single crochet. By the end of this class, I will show you how to make a cowl.

Feb 3, 2018
Class 5: Working in Rounds. Keep your head warm and your pockets full, we’re making a hat!

In this fifth class, we will go over skills taught in classes one through four. Then move on to working in rounds. We’ll skip the Doilies and instead make a Hat! If you already know the basics of crocheting, but never tried your hand at making a hat, please feel free to jump right into this class. Maybe pick up a few tricks in the process.

About the Instructor

Julia Randall Dobson, has a Bachelor’s of Science in Hotel Management from Johnson & Wales University. Her main goal is to start a Bed & Breakfast for those who have “incurable diseases”, and will then learn how to take care of themselves in a more holistic approach, along with the inclusion of animals (rescue animals, not to be used for consumption), and a sustainable farm using aquaponics. Due to some health issues, Julia hasn’t been able to work in her field of hospitality for a year. She needed a new hobby and decided to take up crocheting. With encouragement from her family and friends, she wants to share her crocheting craft with others, in hopes that it gives other as much enjoyment as it brings her.
