Description

We continue our Fall President's Class THE ART OF LIVING series with The Art of Creating: Artistry and Innovation.

There are seven major notes in the musical scale, thirteen if you count them all. How did we generate so much music from such a small set of resources? Creativity is not about generating something new in the world any more than music is about creating new notes. It must be something in the recombination of what we are given—in words, notes, ideas, imagesthat accounts for creativity. What is that something? And what does context—our particular place and time—have to do with it? More importantly, how can we find it and be true to it? This lecture/discussion is about creating and innovating during a time when these aspects of life have become more prominent.

Greg Salyer, PhD, is President of the University of Philosophical Research and has been a teacher and administrator in higher education for almost twenty-five years. He has a Ph.D. in Literary Theory, Contemporary Literature, and Religious Studies from Emory University’s Graduate Institute of the Liberal Arts and has taught in many venues, from small liberal arts colleges to a major research university, and also online since 2000.
