Description

On May 25th and May 26th 2017, at 8:00 p.m., Douglas Taurel will perform his powerful and passionate solo show THE AMERICAN SOLDIER at the EMMA S. BARRIENTOS MEXICAN AMERICAN CULTURAL CENTER.

The show is based on real stories and factual accounts from actual soldiers and family members. These include with letters written from the American Revolution all the way through current day Afghanistan. It The show examines the internal struggles and problems that soldiers face when returning home from combat. THE AMERICAN SOLDIER received 4 stars at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland and was Nominated for International Amnesty Award for theatre excellence and recently performed at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. during inauguration weekend.

In a 55-minute show, enhanced by an ingenious interplay of sound and lights, Taurel enters into the personas of 14 veterans and their family members, telling their story of courage and sacrifice. THE AMERICAN SOLDIER exposes their flaws, and their scars, with both darkness and humor. THE AMERICAN SOLDIER is not simply a play, but a journey through the American story, moments that resound with lasting meaning for both audiences old enough to remember, and those young enough to yearn for inspiration.
