Event description

Description

In November 2014, the Victorian offence of defensive homicide was abolished following a widely held perception that it was being ‘abused’ by violent men. This panel event, facilitated by Professor Bronwyn Naylor, will provide an opportunity to reflect on some of the missing voices during the controversial debates surrounding defensive homicide’s operation.

Panelists:

Professor Patricia Easteal, University of Canberra

The Honourable Justice Elizabeth Hollingworth, Supreme Court of Victoria

Helen Fatouros, Executive Director, Criminal Law Services, Victoria Legal Aid

Melinda Walker, Executive Committee, Criminal Law Section, Law Institute of Victoria

Madeleine Ulbrick, PhD Researcher, Monash University

The panel wil be followed by wine and cheese (from 6pm) to celebrate the launch of Asher Flynn and Jacqueliene Hodgson's edited collection, Access to Justice and Legal Aid: Comparative Perspectives on Unmet Legal Need (2017, Hart Publishing).
