Event description
Learn foundational skills to diagnose and treat Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) using a cognitive-behavioral framework.

About this Event

The International OCD Foundation reports that the average person with OCD struggles for 15 years before they receive an accurate diagnosis and best-practice treatment. OCD symptoms often do not fall within stereotypes of OCD and therefore can be difficult to recognize.

This interactive webinar will assist behavioral health providers in recognizing and diagnosing OCD in its various subtypes, including presentations that may be referred to as “pure-O.” The trainer will discuss case formulation and the basics of treatment using CBT with Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), which research shows to be the gold standard of treatment for OCD.

Objectives:

  • Develop the ability to recognize and assess OCD in various subtypes.
  • Learn the difference between obsessions and compulsions, including subtle mental compulsions.
  • Learn case formulation and conceptualize a treatment plan utilizing CBT with Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).
  • Understand the mechanism of treatment through models of habituation and inhibitory learning theories.
  • Apply knowledge to case examples.

Target Audience:

Behavioral health providers (counselors, social workers, psychologists, psychiatric providers)

  • Lecture with powerpoint slides (handouts provided)
