About the Mega Tech Pitch
The UK continues to have difficulty connecting entrepreneurs with the bright talents emerging from British universities, and the challenge of accessing relevant, high quality skills has been highlighted again and again as one of the most pressing concerns for IoD99 members. Matching high level technical skills with the creativity needed to succeed in the workplace is a significant concern for all IoD members. At the same time, we know that the costs of developing and testing products before they come to market are extremely high. Against this backdrop, the IoD will shortly be linking up with a couple of British universities that are breaking new ground in terms of linking students and university resources to businesses. We would like IoD99 members to be the first to explore this collaboration.
At Salford University in Manchester’s Media City, faculties are offering themselves to start-ups as testing grounds for products and ideas. The Industry Collaboration Zone (ICZ) is a creative space that will offer resources and sector-based expertise, providing IoD99ers with the opportunity to use their students and faculties to develop their businesses. We’ll be hosting events at 116 Pall Mall later this year and next to discuss how 99 members can best get value out of these collaborations and we’re keen for you to be there.
Salford’s Arts and Media Faculty leads courses in Social Media, Computer and Video Game development, Media Technology, and Design, among a number of business oriented creative and design courses. The university is focused on ensuring that students blend degrees with both technical and creative courses, thereby producing well rounded graduates who enter the workplace with both the creative acumen and digital knowhow that employers crave. This is the core offering of the ICZ. Needless to say, both students and the faculty are also well equipped to test ideas and products aimed at media audiences and the creative economy.
Please join us from 6:00pm to 8:30pm on 1st November at Café Duke for drinks, canapés, and the opportunity to hear from the leading figures at the University about how you can access and make the most of their resources and students.
