Description

THIS WORKSHOP HAS BEEN POSTPONED. THE MONDAY WORKSHOP IS ALMOST FULL, BUT STILL AVAILABLE. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-7rs-of-fashion-1-tickets-42919539498

If you’re a lover or fashion, curious about designing a stylish but more sustainable life for yourself, this is for you!

It used to be that there were 2 cycles in the fashion calendar -- Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter, but now with fast fashion, there can be as many as 50+ micro-seasons. That means new stuff going on racks for us to purchase every week!

Most of us can easily list off the 3Rs -- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, but our global fashion consumption problem is so off the charts, it’s time for a few more Rs -- Research, Repurpose, Repair & Rent!

In this workshop led by Sarah Peel, slow fashion stylist & Program Director at Fashion Takes Action, you'll learn all about the life cycle of your pair of favourite jeans, dive into the 7Rs of Fashion, and learn why developing a personal style can be a powerful first step to a more sustainable wardrobe -- and taking climate leadership, too!

You are encouraged to bring a design or fashion magazine you don't mind cutting up (we'll be making a vision board!) and one item from your wardrobe (garment, footwear or accessory) that is bound for the donation bin because of rips, stains, fit, boredom, style etc. (we'll be sharing repurposing and repairing ideas!)

Afterwards you'll get a chance to check out the rental fashion racks at Boro!

Organizer Fashion Takes Action

Organizer of The 7Rs of Fashion #2

Fashion Takes Action is Canada's premier not for profit organization that is devoted to the social and environmental impacts of the fashion industry. Our mission is to advance sustainability throughout the entire fashion system (both industry and consumers) through education, awareness and collaboration.

Since 2007 we have worked with more than 800 brands, designers and retailers, collaborated with global sustainable fashion organizations and delivered our school program to over 22,000 students. For the past 3 years we have been leading discussions around textile waste, recycling and making fashion circular - working with industry, charities, collectors, brands and retailers, as well as helping citizens understand the 7'rs of Fashion (reduce, reuse, recycle AND repurpose, repair, rent and resale).

We believe perfection doesn't exist when it comes to sustainable fashion. What does matter is progress and the importance of collaboration to move the needle.  We recoginze the efforts that are being made - big and small - that are helping our industry become more innovative and progressive, and more respectful of the planet and people who make our clothes!
