Description

This briskly-paced presentation will touch on some of the most common (and frequent) reasons why waterproofing for ceramic tile and stone can go wrong, as well as offering practical "real life" solutions to make sure you do not fall victim to one or more of the "7" deadly sins.

Lunch will be provided by Noble Company



Learning Objectives

  1. Identify areas of installations of stone and tile that are chronically wet to ensure that designs and installations deal with them. This will result in fewer failed installations which w ill improve durability of the systems adding to Sustainability.
  2. Discuss errors and omissions in installation methods that result in failures. Leaks can result in grow the of fungus and mold which can be detrimental to human health.
  3. Identify the means to determine compatibility of various products used in waterproofing installations. Proper specifications must ensure that products function as designed to ensure safety of the installation.
  4. Define the elements necessary to ensure a specification that utilizes products and installation methods that w ill waterproof the application. Ensures a failure free installation and avoids costs to repair leaks which adds to Welfare.

Dean Moilanen is a Division 9 waterproofing, crack isolation, and permeation specialist who advises on some of the most demanding and prestigious projects in the USA. As a 30-year veteran of the tile industry, Dean’s relationships with architects, builders, and owners allow him access to some of the most challenging and compelling design issues in the industry. Dean’s extensive career on job sites gives him a real-world perspective as he has seen first-hand success and failure relating to product selection, installation issues, and sequencing challenges.
