Description

The 5th Annual Veteran Academic Awards Breakfast (VAAB) aims to highlight the scholastic success of CUNY Veterans, Reservists, Service Members & Military Dependents. Veteran awardees are chosen based on specific academic criteria. Veterans with a G.P.A. of a least 3.5 and a minimum of 36 credits at the Community College level or 60 credits at the Senior College level are being honored.

Student veteran honorees who attend the awards ceremony will receive a certificate of academic achievement, CUNY Veterans’ Affairs challenge coin, a chance to win a FREE laptop or iPad as well as an exclusive opportunity to network with employers and veteran service providers.

The 2017 Veterans Professional Networking/Resource Fair will take place immediately after the awards ceremony.

Event Schedule:

9:00 AM - 9:30 AM – Breakfast will be served

9:30 AM - 11:00 AM - 5th Annual Veterans' Academic Awards Ceremony

11:00 AM - 3:00 PM - 2017 Veterans' Professional Networking and Resource Fair begins.


5th Annual Academic Awards Event FAQs:

1. Why was I chosen?

  • Student veterans are chosen based on specific academic criteria that demonstrate their outstanding academic achievements. Veterans with a G.P.A. of a least 3.5 and a minimum of 36 credits at the Community College level or 60 credits at the Senior College level are being honored. Congradulations!.

2. Who should attend this event?

  • You! This is a chance to be recognized for your scholastic success. As an honoree you will receive an award and a chance to win a FREE laptop or iPad. Immediately following the ceremony the 2017 Veteran Professional Networking/Resource Fair will begin. The first hour of the fair is open only to those veterans who were honored during the awards ceremony. During which time representatives from MCU, CBS, ACP, MTA, and the VA (amongst others) will be available to discuss employment opportunities as well as veteran specific resources.

3. What should I wear to this event?

  • Professional business attire is appropiate for this event.

4. What should I bring to this event?

  • You should bring copies of your resume and cover letter to share with employers.

5. Can I bring a guest?

  • Yes, please contact us by email for inquiries regarding guests (veterans@cuny.edu). *Please note - Any child attending the event must be accompanied by a chaperone at all times.

6. What if I have class at the time of the event?

  • Atendees are urged to notify their professors beforehand in order to ensure students avoid academic penalities relating to an absence.
