Event description
Join us to celebrate International Women's Day and the inaugural 49% Film Festival

About this Event

The 49% Film Festival is a new film festival dedicated to advancing women's rights and telling women's stories.

Join us for our opening celebration at WeWork Jerusalem. Meet international activists, filmmakers, journalists, and advocates for women's rights.

Heavy hors d'oeuvres, beer, and wine will be served.

Special guests include:

  • H.E. Ambassador Deborah A. Lyons, Canadian Ambassador to Israel
  • Professor Ruth Halperin-Keddari, member of UN Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW)
  • Sharine Atif, indie filmmaker

NOTE: This ticket is for the opening celebration only. The 49% Film Festival itself will take place on March 6-7 at the Jerusalem Cinematheque. Film tickets can be purchased via the Cinematheque website.

Why the name?

Women are the disruptors of their societies and the agents of social change. While women are 49% of the population they are only:

  • 32% of national parliamentarians worldwide
  • 4.8% of CEO positions at S&P 500 companies
  • less than 30% of researchers worldwide
  • 24% of protagonists in Hollywood films
  • 24% of the persons heard, read about/seen in newspaper, television & radio news

Help us change the status quo! Join us to promote women's voices and advance women's rights.

Confirmed sponsors: Council for Muslims Facing Tomorrow (Canada)• The Embassy of Canada in Israel • The Jerusalem Cinematheque • The Jerusalem Film Fund • Maaleh Film School (Israel) • Magool Foundation (UK) • NEXUS Global Youth Summit • The Schusterman Foundation • WeWork

This event was made possible through the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation's Grassroots Events program.
