Technical Lecture Topic:
“The Engineers and Contractors Response to
Site Risk and Their Contribution to Project Success"
Kord Wissmann, Ph.D., P.E. & David P. Sauls, P.E.
Dr. Wissmann and Mr. Sauls will describe the technical and business practices related to risk management in the practice of geotechnical engineering and construction from two perspectives. Evaluation of geotechnical risk requires the study of technical, financial, and contracting hazards and consequences. Business practices can create unnecessary risks and complicate communications between the owner, designer, and contractor. We show how engineers and contractors actions to reduce individual risk often increase project risk and create unnecessary additional hazards.
