Technical Lecture Topic:
“The GeoProfessional Paradox –
A Question of Ethics?”
Victor R. Donald, P.E.
The practice of geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering is a noble one. A geoprofessional must weave a keen knowledge of local site characterization methods and construction techniques with theoretical engineering principals in ways that ultimately achieve our ethical responsibility to hold paramount the safety, health and welfare of the public. In spite of the obvious need for professional capability, an insidious economic pressure is creating a significant challenge. Commoditization of our profession may be creating a paradox for the very term "geoprofessional".
