Event description
The 2nd Rafiki Gala Dinner by Sleepy’s Kotara

About this Event

In March 2018 , I (Kasey Jach along with my sister Mandy Jones and my best friend Amy Tesluk attended a very emotional International Women's Day event and learnt about a very special charity called Rafiki Mwema

One of Rafiki's dedicated leaders Sarah Rosborg presented about Rafiki Mwema and shared the heart breaking stories of children as young as 2 being raped and sexually abused and the devastating realities they have had to face.

Rafiki Mwema Is located in Nakuru Kenya on a beautiful property called Doyle Farm. There are 4 seperate houses for young girls and boys depending on their needs and ages, all have survived unspeakable trauma and abuse.

Rafiki provides housing, love, therapy and medical treatment to these kids who have no one else to advocate for them, no one to love them, no one to keep them safe

Some of these young survivors have been abused to the point of needing surgery, some prostituted from the age of 2 , some aren't even able to communicate without covering their faces due to the shame they believe they have brought on themselves.

Last year we begged our friends, family and business associates to get involved to support us and attend the first Inaugural Rafiki Gala Proudly Supported by Sleepy’s Kotara. The response was more than we ever could have imagined and we will never be able to express our gratitude enough but life on the farm for 70 kids is expensive and we need to step up again!

Introducing The 2nd Rafiki Gala Dinner proudly supported by Sleepy’s Kotara.

We support our babies as they go through the court process ( which can take years) and during this time our little girls can’t go to school because if the perpetrator knows where they are their lives are in danger.

In Kenya, if the perpetrator is convicted they get life in jail and a missing child can’t testify.

We need a school, a therapeutic school on our farm and I need your help

We will never stay silent about child sexual abuse... will you?

A word from Rafiki....

Imagine you are a child with no one in the world to care for you. Imagine being as young as 2 years old and being shunned and beaten for YOUR sin of being raped.

At Rafiki Mwema we help our girls to understand their frightening experience and allow them to know that they are not to blame. While they are with us our girls receive medical attention; support through their court cases; education; therapy and a warm, loving, playful and empathic environment – we change the air they breathe so they can repair from the inside.

We work with families; in the communities; the schools; churches; villages; with the government officials to ensure the cycle of abuse is broken and children are able to live as children should. We are totally committed to supporting the children who have experienced things we could not even imagine and to help them heal their trauma.

At Rafiki Mwema we also work with our boys to respect themselves and others. We give them the values to become safe husbands and fathers - we help them to be able to be loved.

They are a registered Australian Charity and all donation are fully tax deductible.
