7:30 PM RUTH PAGE AWARD PRESENTATION AND PERFORMANCE of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater
Representatives from The Ruth Page Center for the Arts present the prestigious Ruth Page Awards to Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre and its Artistic Director, Robert Battle, and the Chicago Dance History Project and its Executive and Artistic Director, Jenai Cutcher.

The legendary multi-cultural company commemorates their 60th anniversary and the 50th anniversary performing at the Auditorium Theatre, their Chicago home! In celebration of these exciting milestones, Ailey brings its first ever two-act ballet to the theatre for its Midwest premiere: Lazarus, co-commissioned by the Auditorium and created by renowned hip-hop choreographer Rennie Harris, is inspired by company founder Alvin Ailey’s life and the racial inequities America faced when he founded the company in 1958 and still faces today. Other highlights include the Midwest premieres of Wayne McGregor’s Kairos and Jessica Lang’s EN, in addition to a full evening of timeless Ailey works. Each performance ends with Ailey’s signature work Revelations, an enduring masterpiece that has been an audience favorite since the company’s inception. Ailey’s annual performances are “always a highlight of the Chicago season” (Chicago Sun-Times) and “a Chicago dance tradition, if we ever had one” (Chicago Tribune).

This award, in honor of dance icon, Ruth Page (1899-1991), is a unique opportunity for the Ruth Page Center to acknowledge an individual’s or organization’s contributions to the world of dance. The award also continues the tradition of honoring those who share Ms. Page’s legacy of passion, artistry, and vision.
