Description

Brazilian Heart Music and Kátia Moraes proudly present The 8th Brazilian Heart, a Celebration: Songs of Protest & Changean annual performance series in homage of renowned Brazilian artists. The performance will be for one night only.

In this year's celebration, twelve female singer/songwriters recognize International Women's Day. Performing music inspired by Brazilian and American protest songs, the women will weave songs, poetry, and stories that remind us how art can inspire social change.

The performance also salutes Tropicalia master Gilberto Gil.

About Brazilian Heart Music

Brazilian Heart Music was originally created by Moraes to sing the repertoire of her favorite Brazilian singer-songwriters: Elis Regina (2012), Clara Nunes (2013), Maria Bethânia (2014), and Noel Rosa (2015). Starting in 2016, she began to invite female performers from her Los Angeles community to celebrate International Women's Day and the legacy of such luminaries as Rita Lee (2016), Tom Jobim & Ella Fitzgerald (2017) and Jacob do Bandolim (2018). In the process she has also explored such topics as Immigrants and, this year, Songs of Protest and Change. Brazilian Heart, A Celebration brings the audience inside the 'heartmind' of the singer-songwriters thus bringing into sharper focus the themes that weave through their work and speak to the present moment.
