The 2016 Woman of Color & Man About Town Awards Gala (Masquerade Ball)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MAY 2016
The African American Chamber Foundation of San Joaquin will feature its annual fundraiser: Woman of Color & Man About Town Awards Gala / Masquerade Ball on Nov 4, 2016, inside Merlo Gymnasium (2021 Anne Street Stockton, CA) at 5:00 P.M.
This Year's Theme--to compliment the masquerade concept-- “Giving is most blessed and most acceptable when the donor remains completely anonymous.” -Anonymous
The Woman of Color Recognition Program was initiated in 1999 by former President, Essie Jean Gilchrist.
In 1981, the National Institute for Women of Color (NIWC) was established to build a strong national network for women of African, Alaska Native, American Indian, Asian, Hispanic, Latina, and Pacific Island heritages and to advance the issues of Women of Color. These efforts resulted in National Strategy Conferences for Women of Color in 1982 and 1983 in Washington, D.C., 1984 in Reno, Nevada and 1987 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. In 1986, the NIWC proclaimed March 1st - the first day of Women's History Month - as National Women of Color Day. Since that time, Women of Color Day Programs have been held across the United States and in other countries.
Originally, the "Annual Black Tie Dinner" (now referred to as: "The Man About Town Dinner") merged with The Woman of Color Celebration in 2005 to recognize the community's most influential and inspiring men in the areas of leadership, community service, and business success.
The African American Chamber Foundation of San Joaquin will pay tribute to the following Award Recipients:
