The 11th Hour: An Urgent Call for Holistic Action
The tremendous toll on the psychological and social wellbeing of individuals and communities in the aftermath of disasters is well established. This makes Mental Health and Psychosocial Services (MHPSS) an indispensable aspect inhumanitarian emergencies and disaster management. Although the field of MHPSS has developed considerably in the Philippines, it needs to be extensively enhanced in policies and programs in both national and local level. There continues to be a great need for sensitizing leaders, policy makers as well as humanitarian aid workers to the importance of the integrated approach and the heavy toll that climate change and disasters impose on the psychosocial wellbeing of the nation and its people.
